The villa

Built into the hillside, not on top of it.

Four separate buildings step down a natural jungle slope, joined by stone paths and open terraces. The architect, Bruno Ferrand, kept the granite boulders and nearly every tree, so the house feels like it grew here rather than landed. Solar power, harvested rainwater, a saltwater pool with no chlorine. And from every room the same wide horizon: Baan Tai, Hin Kong, then Koh Samui and the Ang Thong islands beyond.

There is space to unroll eight mats on the upper terrace, facing the sea. Steam room and cold plunge below. Private teachers, massage and cooks come to the house — Srithanu, the island's yoga village, is fifteen minutes away when you want company.

The villa sits on a hilltop above Maduawan, in the quiet interior of the island, facing west over roughly half of Koh Phangan. Close enough to the ferry, the market and the yoga studios; high enough that you hear only birds and wind.
